A Visit to Sherwood Forest
The historical museum of the Palatinate in Speyer has a wonderful exhibit running until this summer called "Robin Hood". This exhibit is super kid friendly and encourages children to experience life in the Sherwood Forest with Robin Hood and his merry men with more than 20 hands on exhibits. They can dress in medieval clothing and follow Robin Hood's footsteps of courage, community and hope that good will always win over evil! The exhibit allows kids to explore social values in medieval times, life in the forest, and the sport of archery! Kids have an opportunity in the professional archery facility, complete with medieval atmosphere, to practice their accuracy and concentration skills using sport arches and special arrows. Museum is open Tues-Sun from 10-6. Domplatz 4, 67346 Speyer. http://museum.speyer.de/aktuell/robin-hood/
Burn down winter!
Come out to the annual torch hike in Olsbrücken this Saturday evening. This hike has been going strong since 1990 and occurs each year on the first Saturday after Ash Wednesday. The purpose is to send off winter! It is believed that the larger the fire and hikers, the sooner the good weather will return!
Meet at the village square at 1600 to purchase a torch for the hike. The approximately 1 mile hike, about 30 minutes of walking, will lead to a forest hut where you will find a large pile of wood and old Christmas trees, arranged by the Palatinate Forest Club. This is one of the walking huts, of about 100, that the Forest Club maintains. Food and beverages will be available at the forest hut.
Under the supervision of the local Fire Department, children and adults can use their torches to create a large bonfire to bid winter goodbye! The event officially ends at 9:00 p.m. Village Square Hauptstrasse 56, 67737 Olsbrücken.
